2

Minutes of the last meeting and matters arising.

  1. The recent Training Day for Readers at LACE did not meet the perceived training needs for Bishop Eton.
  2. The refurbishment of St. Gerard Majella’s Chapel is progressing, but will not be ready for the feast day. Also, action needed : medals have been sourced.

3

Review of Parish Celebration

  1. Although the event had not been planned as a fundraiser but as a social event, a profit had been made of  £1050.29 for Project Zimbabwe. There were generous donations of time and money, and the various entertainers had not asked for a fee.
  2. Lessons could be learnt for next time the event is held.  A team was needed to tidy the grounds, and to cut back the overgrown leylandii in good time. Also, a change from a Hog Roast was suggested.

4

Masses

Discussion of easing the schedule of the two parishes was deferred until January, by which time the staffing of Bishop Eton for the next few years would be clearer.

5

Fisher More Hall

Research was continuing into the best tables to buy.

It was hoped to make more space for storage.

6

AGM: for full group

This will be in January or thereabouts, after the Province meeting.

7

DBS checks

These were needed for all those holding any position in the parish.

8

Forthcoming activities and recent achievements from sub-groups :

Mission and spirituality

The Parish had been represented at the recent installation of the new Minister for Allerton URC church.

Liaison with schools and youth

The younger-age youth group had gone down in numbers, possibly because of the change in the age for Confirmation, but the Young Adults group was thriving.

Liaison with St Mary’s

Nothing specific to report.

Liturgy

Several new altar servers had been recruited.

Finance

A detailed report on the various necessary repairs to drains and gutters was submitted.

Hospitality

A ‘Farewell and Bon Voyage’ event for Philip Reeds had been held.

Administration

  1. Insurance cover- this is all in order.
  2. Dates for Christmas services and events so far

Any Other Business

  1. The gazebo owned by the parish could be hired out for use by birthday parties etc, as a fundraiser.
  2. Weather-proof chairs could be bought and stored in an outside shelter, to be available for various events.
  3. Hymnbooks had disappeared from the benches. An amnesty will be announced.

10 Date of next meeting:  12 November
