Comings and Goings: Fr Burns has returned from Spain, but he and I will be away at the beginning of the coming week for Provincial Council meetings in London. On Friday 1st September, we will welcome to the Bishop Eton community Fr Michael Henesy and Bro Michael Duxbury. For over a year they have been keeping an eye on our former pastoral centre at Hawkstone Park, but at last the new owners are due to take possession of the property and we can leave it with a clear conscience.

Fr John Milcz: This weekend we will be celebrating with Fr John, some of his family from Poland and many of his friends from different parts of the country: He is 90 on Tuesday!

Holidays: Enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend and the final week of the school holidays. Hopefully, next weekend we will all be raring to go as the new academic year is about to be launched upon us. Certainly we will need to allow a little more time for our journeys!

Exams: We hope all our students are content with their exam results and wish them well as they move on to the next phase of their lives.

Hospital Chaplaincy: A reminder that there is an advertisement in the porch regarding a half-time vacancy in the hospital chaplaincy at the Royal and Broadgreen Hospital Trust. Alternatively click here for the advert on the Archdiocesan website. Pleas note that the closing date for applicants is the 30th August

Certificates of Religious Practice for Faith Schools

I understand that the Archdiocese has revised its position with regard to these references and left it to the discretion of the parish priest. I have resolutely followed the previous diocesan policy that I should give only factual information regarding the reception of the sacraments, which protects me from the potential conflict of having to determine what is meant by religious practice and therefore I do not intend to start giving personal testimonials now. If particular schools are willing to accept others as referees, then there is nothing I can do about that, but I insist that such references DO NOT carry any form of official approval from the parishes for which I am responsible: e.g. parish letter-headed notepaper or an official stamp.

DAYS OF RECOLLECTION: Fr Charles has kindly offered to do something I have long wanted to do, namely organise days of recollection for some key lay ministries. I hope all the ministers will make every effort to take part

They will all take place in St Mary’s Hall, Woolton, between 10.00am and 2.00pm on the Saturdays named below. They will include Mass, a time for prayer and reflection and deal with any practical issues.

  • Sat 30 Sept: Readers,
  • Sat 21 Oct: Sacristans;
  • Sat 28 Oct: Eucharistic Ministers.

The Funeral of Monica Peters RIP will take place on Wednesday 30 August at 12.00 noon.

Holy Hour Adoration at 7.30pm on Friday 1 September. Please come and join us.

Friends of the Holy Land Mass for peace and justice for our fellow Christians in the Holy Land will take place on Saturday 2 September at 12.00 midday.

Parish Quiz Night next Saturday 2 September at 8.00pm for 8.30pm start. All welcome.

SVP monthly collection will take place after all Masses next weekend, including food bank collection. A box will be available in the Church entrance for donations. Thank you for your generosity.

Parish Coffee Morning next Sunday after the 10.00am Mass. Also, the Repository with all profits going to Project Zimbabwe.
