Comings and Goings:

Fr Michael Henesy and Bro Michael Duxbury have had to delay their arrival by a couple of days, but should be with us before the end of the weekend.

Fr Andrew and Fr Charles leave for Perth this Sunday to be present at the next phase (European Meeting) of our General Chapter. Fr Andrew is our elected representative and Fr Charles has been co-opted to help with the minutes (and probably some translating).

Fr Andrew should be back next weekend, but Fr Charles has other meetings (including one for vocations) and will not be back until towards the end of the month.

Fr James Smale is preaching for Zimbabwe in Plymouth this weekend.

Fr John Milcz: Fr John was very touched by your generosity and messages of good will and wants to thank you all and assure you of his prayers.

Days of Recollection for those in ministry: Fr Charles has kindly offered to do something I have long wanted to do, namely organise days of recollection for some key lay ministries. I hope all the ministers will make every effort to take part..

Back to School: We welcome back the staff and pupils of all our schools as they begin a new academic year. We hope and pray that they will be successful on every front.

Dementia Friendly Parishes: Ann O’Neill, spurred on by the challenge of trying to help parishioners in difficulty, has now prepared a comprehensive display at the back of St Mary’s church, with fact sheets and contact numbers for those seeking support. We will try and find a way of making this information available at Bishop Eton too.

The Alzheimer’s Society can provide advice - they can be contacted on 0300 222 1122. Alternatively, you can download information/ facts sheets from their website at: 

SVP monthly collection will take place after all Masses today, including food bank collection. A box is available in the Church entrance for donations. Thank you for your generosity.

Parish Coffee Morning after 10.00am Mass. Also, the Repository with all profits going to Project Zimbabwe.

Days of Recollection  with Fr Charles in St Mary’s Parish Hall  between 10am and 2pm The day will include Mass, a time for prayer and reflection and will deal with any practical issues

The Annual Knights of St Columba: Steve Dooley Memorial Walk will take place at 2.00pm Sunday 24 September from Pump House along the Mersey to Liverpool Cricket Club. Our Charity this year is Nugent Crisis Fund.


RYM: Are you age 18-40 (or thereabouts)? Would you like to meet with likeminded Catholics to explore your faith? The Redemptorist Young Adult group encourages young Catholics to grow in their faith.  Sessions are informative, fun and diverse, and include a spiritual aspect and social aspect (drinks, meal, quiz, bowling, walks). We meet alternate Tuesdays at 7.30pm, in the Fisher-More Hall.  See poster in the porch for more details.

A morning of reflection for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion on Saturday 30 September from 9.30am-1.00pm at LACE.

Initial training for Bereavement Teams on Wednesdays 18 & 25 October from 1.30pm-4.30pm at Holy Rosary Parish Centre.

CTMH Ecumenical Prayer Meeting 7.30pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 13 September, in the parlour of the Notre Dame Convent at Hope University Campus. All welcome.

Living Fully


Please can everyone using the car park take extra care and adhere to the NO PARKING signs. Cars are regularly blocking access routes and parking on double yellow lines obstructing the free flow of traffic and pedestrians.


  • recently the concrete bollard which had only just been replaced was bumped into;
  • the wooden flower beds outside the Monastery was severely damaged, after so much hard work had gone into replanting them,
  • cars are constantly being scraped.

In most of these cases NO-ONE has informed the monastery that they have caused any damage. Please park responsibly and manoeuvre carefully to avoid damaging any property.  

The drama of the Mass

A new website has been created by the artistic creator of the 1967 opening celebrations of the Metropolitan Cathedral.

The website includes photos, videos of the events leading up to the opening and the opening itself.

Dates announced for next year's European Redemptorists Youth gathering in Grenada Spain 25th-29th July 2018

Exhibition at the Metropolitan Cathedral

In 1960 an architectural competition to design Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral attracted international attention, with 299 entries from around the world. This  fascinating exhibition brings togethera selection of the architectural submissions and newly commissioned physical models of key schemes.

The exhibition will run from 27 July – 10 September 2017 in the main entrance hall of the Cathdral. Opening times 10am - 4pm Entrance is free.

From Workshop to Worship 

From 1st August to 29th of September there will be an exhibition at the Hornby Library (part of Central Library) entitled  Workhouse to Worship.

This new exhibition focuses on the Brownlow Hill Workhouse which occupied the Mount Pleasant site prior to the construction of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King.

This exhibition is free and features architectural plans, paintings, maps, photographs, apprentice indentures, Christmas invitations and many more items related to the workhouse

Heritage Open Days at the Metropolitan Cathedral

 Every September events are organised to celebrate England’s rich history and culture. All are free to explore.

This year the Cathedral is delighted to support David Peglar from the Cathedral Art Studio as he opens the doors of this bustling department to visitors for 3 days.

The Art Studio, which is responsible for the vast array of hangings and banners that adorn the Cathedral, will be open from Thursday 7th to Saturday 9th September from 10.00am – 3.00pm and visitors are warmly encouraged to ‘drop-in’. The cathedral guides will be delighted to point you in the right direction.  An exhibition of Cathedral Textiles will be on display, as well as other items created by the Sewing for Pleasure class. Workshops will take place throughout the 3 days and refreshments will be on sale.

The next series of support meetings for divorced and separated will start in mid September. The Knights of St Columba Council 9 Annual Steve Dooley Sponsored Walk will take place on Sunday 24th September from along the Mersey from Albert Dock to Liverpool Cricket Club.

Their Charity this year is Nugent  Crisis Fund.Sponsored envelopes will be given out at churches in South Liverpool in September.

The Reformed Allerton Dramatic Society (RADS)

RADS group of talented amateurs’ next production is Murdered to Death - a comedy thriller by Peter Gordon - a hilarious spoof on the Agatha Christie genre. An assembled cast of delightful characters turn up following the mysterious death of the owner of a country Manor House. Will they all die before the bumbling local police inspectors and/or the well-meaning local sleuth unmask the murderer? 

The venue is the hall of the Allerton United Reformed Church (corner Mather Ave/Booker Ave)L18 7HD. 

Running from Wed 16th November - Sat 18th Nov 2017 inclusive, tickets (on the door) are £7, £6 concessions, and £3 children.
