FROM FR TIM
ADVENT: I hope the Advent Season is providing you with an opportunity to reflect on your own spiritual journey. The secret of Advent is that while we prepare to celebrate again the wonder of the coming of the Christ-child 2,000 years ago, we also look to the future and our ultimate destiny when Christ will come again in glory. I am delighted that a few of our parishioners from St Mary’s are taking time off this weekend to make a retreat. May we all find some space in the coming week to retreat into our inner self and find the peace Christ promised only he can give.
That peace can be found especially in the sacrament of reconciliation, so please note that after all the weekday Masses between now and Christmas there will be an opportunity to celebrate this sacrament.
Also there will be the usual RECONCILIATION SERVICES this week, on Monday at St Mary’s at 7.30pm and at Bishop Eton on Tuesday at 7.30pm.
News Update: I had a short break during the week in our house in Clapham, and visited some of our sick confrères in that community. We also have Fr Tony Hunt in hospital at present. Please also remember in your prayers all those in our two parishes struggling with health problems.
During the past week Fr Charles has celebrated a birthday and the anniversary of his ordination (Feast of the Immaculate Conception): we congratulate him and thank him for his priestly ministry in our two parishes. He will lead the reconciliation services in the coming week.
The Funeral of James O’Brien RIP will take place on Friday 15 December at 12.00 noon.
BELL: Bishop Eton Lending Library, meet this Tuesday 12 December, in the Hughes Room 2.00pm—4.00pm. Do come along and see the selection of books, borrow and have a chat. Refreshments will be available. All welcome.
Wednesday Lunch will take place on 13 December at 12.30pm in the Fisher-More Hall. All welcome.
Women’s Group Christmas Gathering is on Friday 15th December at 7.30pm in the Fisher-More hall. Bring food to share and your preferred drink.
Parish Celebration of Carols in church on Monday 18 December at 7.00pm. This parish celebration is for all ages and includes music from our 10.00am and 6.00pm Music Groups and Allerton Brass. There will be refreshments in the Fisher—More Hall afterwards.
Please note that there will be NO 6.00pm Mass on Sunday 24 December (Christmas Eve).
The fourth Sunday of Advent this year is also Christmas Eve. As our Children's vigil Mass will be at 7 it would be impractical to hold the 6pm Mass. The 8.30am, 10am and 11.30am Masses will go ahead as normal.
Please note that attending the Vigil Masses on Christmas Eve does not fulfill the Sunday Obligation for the fourth Sunday of Advent
