FROM FR TIM
OCTAVE OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
In spite of the fact that this year there will be no special Unity Service in our area, nor any exchange of pulpits, I think it is important that we continue to pray fervently for Christian unity. We will offer a special bidding prayer during the Octave leading up to the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul on the 25 January.
ZIMBABWE: Brother Benjamin,C.Ss.R whose project we have so generously supported, has written a warm letter of gratitude, which is available this weekend.
Christmas Collection: Fr Andrew and all the Redemptorists at Bishop Eton thank you for your immense generosity at Christmas. The total for the two parishes was almost £8,500.
Eucharistic Congress Delegates: We have been asked to provide five delegates for the Congress in September, who will then become part of a core team for the Pastoral Area leading up to the Diocesan Synod in 2020. If you are interested in becoming a delegate, please contact Fr Tim before next weekend. Thank you.
Redemptorist Lay Associates: Fr Maurice O’Mahony will speak at all the Masses next weekend to present the idea of Lay Associates. This is an excellent opportunity for you to become more fully associated with the Redemptorists in sharing their prayer life, spirituality and apostolate. The level of commitment is respectful of personal choice and circumstance. There will be an open session (no obligation) with Fr Maurice and some of our Lay Associates to explore this possibility in the Fisher-More Hall at 3.00pm on Sunday 28 January.
The Funeral of Alice Riley RIP will take place on Wednesday 24 January at 12.00 noon.
Parish Meeting Refugee Resettlement Programme:

Please NOTE: Everyone is welcome - we are NOT just looking for professionals - we need anyone who has some time to help.Thank you.

The purpose of the meeting was explained in a handout which was given out after Masses last week. If you don't have a copy then you can read the content bu clicking here.

SVP food collection via the Monastery weekdays 10.00am—6.00pm. Cans, pasta, rice and non-perishables gratefully accepted. Thank you.
Hospitality Team: Some of the team are no longer able to help so it would be good to have some new volunteers to assist when they could. If you feel able to help at future events please put your name, telephone number or email address on the list at the back of the church or you can phone Cath Line on 722 3286.
In case you missed it - here is the article from January's BE Alive on the Hospitality Team
The Hospitality Team was formed after the parish awakening day in order to help the people of the parish to celebrate special feasts and events in the life of the parish community. We also aim to welcome visitors or new people to the parish. Light refreshments are usually served in the hall while providing the opportunity for people to meet, chat and celebrate together. Some of the events we have celebrated so far have been the Golden Jubilees of two of the clergy, special birthdays, feast days, the summer garden party and of course the Christmas Carol Services where people enjoy the mulled wine and mince pies and the chance to wish friends a happy Christmas.
I usually do the shopping for the events along with Sue Timmis and I then call on a team of volunteers to help serve the refreshments and tidy up afterwards. Some of the team are no longer able to help so it would be good to have some new volunteers to assist when they could. If you feel able to help at future events I would be grateful if you could put your name, telephone number or email address on a list
I will leave at the back of the church or you can ring me on 722 3286. Thank you. Catherine Line, Co-ordinator for the Hospitality Team

RYM: Dates for your diary (from Natasha)
Tuesday 23rd Jan - We're going to Animate's "Life and Soul" - an hour of prayer and praise before the Blessed Sacrament. I've heard these are really popular and awe-inspiring so thought we'd give it a try. It's at St Charles church in Aigburth - get in touch for bus/lift details. It's at the earlier time of 7pm - get there on time as it only lasts an hour! Then afterwards we'll go to get a drink locally.
Saturday 3rd Feb - 4pm - sign language session at St Mary's church hall. We'll spend an hour learning the Lord's prayer and a few Mass responses, and then go to Mass together (5:30 vigil at St Mary's) and sign together! When we signed a hymn last time there were a few tears from parishioners!!
Tuesday 6th Feb - RYM comes home - yes, we'll be back in the Fisher More hall for an informative talk by a priest on Confession, with a focus on the Redemptorist motto "with Him there is plentiful redemption". We'll have a discussion and reflection - not to be missed, this will lead us in to Lent nicely!
Please note the January 2018 edition of BE Alive includes an introduction to our RYM coordinators Natasha and Anita. Please click here to access an electronic copy
Also there is a Retreat for Young Adults in Kinnoull - click on the image below to learn more
