FROM FR TIM
ASH WEDNESDAY: We begin Lent this coming Wednesday and as usual we will have an extra Mass in the evening at 7.30pm, including the distribution of the ashes (the Novena Prayer will also be said). Since the children are on half-term and will not have their little ceremony in school, it will be good if you are able to bring them to one of the Masses. Ash Wednesday begins the Lenten Season and our preparation for Easter, the greatest Feast in the Church’s calendar and the memory of these special occasions leave lasting impressions, which stay with us through our lives.
There is a Pastoral Area Reconciliation Service at 10.30am on Saturday 17th February at St Ambrose, Speke.
Readers Session: Fr Charles Randall will be leading a ses-sion for all readers on Saturday 3rd March 9.30am to 11.30am in the Romero Room at Our Lady of the Assumption in Gateacre. This is for all existing readers and all those who have come on board in recent times. Fr Charles will explore the importance of the ministry as well as give plenty of practical support. This is open to all in the Pastoral Area
A JOB OPPORTUNITY AT THE MONASTERY: We have had some interest in the possibility of someone (preferably with a medical/nursing background) joining our team of carers at the monastery. One or two have offered their services in a voluntary capacity and this is excellent, but we would still like to explore the possibility of a permanent contract. This advertisement is deliberately open-ended because we believe it may be possible mutually to agree days and hours to suit both our own needs and those of the would-be applicant.
ARCHBISHOP MALCOLM has written a Pastoral Letter to coincide with what would have been the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes today. He will make an official visit to the parish on Sunday 18 March.
Today is also World Day for the sick and Pope Francis has issued a letter which you can read by clicking here.
CONTINUING CHALLENGES: Unfortunately Fr Jimmy Smale fell last Wednesday and has damaged his shoulder. He has already been struggling with a damaged leg and therefore will be out of action for a while. We had already agreed to cover three Masses this weekend in Aintree and now have the Cenacle and Christopher Grange to look after as well. Please be patient with us as we try to be as helpful as possible to the wider needs of the Church. If we need further reminders, these events reinforce all that I wrote about in my Open Letter a few months ago.
Thank you to Christopher Allmand for his wonderful letter in The Tablet this weekend.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Wednesdays throughout Lent. There is a sheet in the porch for those able to cover the various half hourly slots to sign up.
MAGNIFICAT—Holy Week supplement has been received this week priced £2.00, available in the porch.
The Funeral of Mary Knight RIP will take place on Monday 12 February at 12.00 noon.
Please note: There will be NO Wednesday lunch on 14 February (Ash Wednesday). The next Wednesday lunch will be on 14 March.
Hospitality Team: Some of the team are no longer able to help so it would be good to have some new volunteers to assist when they could. If you feel able to help at future events please put your name, telephone number or email address on the list at the back of the church or you can phone Cath Line on 722 3286.
In case you missed it - here is the article from January's BE Alive on the Hospitality Team
The Hospitality Team was formed after the parish awakening day in order to help the people of the parish to celebrate special feasts and events in the life of the parish community. We also aim to welcome visitors or new people to the parish. Light refreshments are usually served in the hall while providing the opportunity for people to meet, chat and celebrate together. Some of the events we have celebrated so far have been the Golden Jubilees of two of the clergy, special birthdays, feast days, the summer garden party and of course the Christmas Carol Services where people enjoy the mulled wine and mince pies and the chance to wish friends a happy Christmas.
I usually do the shopping for the events along with Sue Timmis and I then call on a team of volunteers to help serve the refreshments and tidy up afterwards. Some of the team are no longer able to help so it would be good to have some new volunteers to assist when they could. If you feel able to help at future events I would be grateful if you could put your name, telephone number or email address on a list
I will leave at the back of the church or you can ring me on 722 3286. Thank you. Catherine Line, Co-ordinator for the Hospitality Team
