FROM FR TIM

ARCHBISHOP MALCOLM will make an official visit to the parish on Sunday 18 March. It would be good if we could organise a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit in the Fisher-More Hall after each Mass so that he is able to meet as many parishioners as possible. Cath Line is looking for help to ensure that this is possible. If you are able to help, please let Hayley or Kris know and they will duly inform Cath.

LENT. There were magnificent congregations in both parishes on Ash Wednesday, so thank you for your good example. Of course, Ash Wednesday is one of the two days of fasting and abstinence left in the Church’s calendar (the other being Good Friday).

However, Friday of the coming first full week is always set aside as a day of fasting for the work of CAFOD and Pope Francis has also called for a worldwide day of prayer for peace on the same day. Let us make it a special day and remember if you want an extra challenge, we always have a 7.00am Mass on weekdays and St Mary’s has one on the  Fridays of Lent as well.

FUNERAL AND BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY. Lay funeral ministers and the bereavement support team play an important role in providing pastoral care in the parish. We are looking to grow these teams as we discern ways of reaching out to those in need. Initial training and ongoing support is provided. If you are interested in this ministry and would like to speak informally to a member of the team to find out what is involved, please give your contact details to the parish office.

If anyone is immediately interested in training as a funeral minister, there is a course this week on Wednesday and Thursday at LACE. Please contact the office. For more details click here

ADORATION BEFORE THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

I do apologise to those of you who had signed up for last Wednesday. I had forgotten to check before last weekend and hoped that the slots might have been filled in, but there were too many gaps to make it feasible. Shall we simply try the hour and half before Novena for the time being? We will expose at 6.00pm each Wednesday until you let me know that it is feasible to attempt something more.

MAGNIFICAT—Holy Week supplement priced £2.00, available in the porch.

CAFOD Family Fast Day on Friday 23 February. Please collect your Fast Day envelope from the porch and return next Sunday. Can you give up a meal or eat a simple meal in solidarity? This Lent for every pound you donate to CAFOD, the UK government will donate a pound. Twice the number of lives can be transformed. Twice the number of children can have the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong.

This year the focus of the Family Fast Day is Zimbabwe

RYM Young Adult Group - Redemption (+ games night)

Inspired by the Redemptorist motto "copiosa apud eum redemptio" (with Him there is plentiful redemption), we've decided to have a session on redemption and confession. Young adults (18-40 or thereabouts!) are welcome to come to a lively and interesting talk and discussion on the subject.

As Catholics, we know that Confessions (or reconciliation, penance, etc) is an important sacrament, but we've often got questions about it. Why do we have to go to confession? What is so special about it? What even counts as a sin?!

We'll have a special guest priest to answer all your questions, plus some discussion and helpful hints if it's been a while since your last confession!

Afterwards, of course, we'll have some social time in the hall playing BOARDGAMES, quizzes and eating snacks! According to the recent poll we did, it seems like lots of people are interested in this kind of social, and we love games ourselves too!

All are welcome to join our friendly group
