FROM FR TIM
GOOD SHEPHERD SUNDAY: DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS: Last year, Bishop Ralph Heskett, CSsR, having been challenged about the problem of finding more priestly vocations for the Diocese of Hallam, gently reminded his priests and people that they would not emerge from Bishop’s House! This might be worth our meditation as we pray that we may all deepen our sense of vocation and strive to be faithful to our common baptismal calling.

ADOREMUS: It may have something to do with my age, but time does seem to be flying by these days and I am conscious that the Eucharistic Congress will be on us as soon as the schools return in the autumn. Five representatives from each parish will attend the Congress and will form part of a forty strong team working in our pastoral area in preparation for the Synod in 2020. They met for the first time last Monday evening. In due course we will have a display board at the porches of each church identifying our representatives so that you can feed and exchange ideas with one another during the next two years. Redemptorist Publications have produced a magnificently illustrated booklet, Adoremus Extra. It has 124 pages (including the Freddie Freckles story) and I have ordered a number of copies for those who wish to imbue themselves with the spirit of the event: they retail at £4.75.
COMINGS AND GOINGS: Fr Andrew returns this evening from a four-day congress with Marriage Encounter in Madrid and Fr Casey is away this weekend. I am leaving this afternoon for a much needed break, but will be back in time for next weekend. The following week is when most of us will be in Perth (Scotland) for our discussions about the restructuring of the Redemptorists across Europe and I remind you that during that week (April 30 to May 4) there will only be a 7.00am Mass each day in Bishop Eton. That week there will be a noon Mass at St Mary’s.
Annual Priests’ Training Fund collection will take place after all Masses today. Gift Aid envelopes can be found in the porch.
Please note: The side chapel will be closed on Thursday and Friday of this week due to the completion of works.
Motown Night on Saturday 28 April. Tickets are £12 and include a fish & chip supper and will be on sale after all Masses today, or can also be purchased at the Monastery reception between 9.00am—6.00pm, Monday-Saturday. All proceeds go to Project Zimbabwe.

70 Years Of The NHS: This is an appeal to all who have worked in the NHS in any capacity and those who feel they have benefited from it in any way to attend the Annual Service which this year celebrates 70 years of the NHS. It will take place on Wednesday 2 May at 6.00pm at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King. See poster in porch for more details.
