FROM FR TIM

FIRST COMMUNIONS: Next weekend we will be celebrating the First Communion Masses with our Year Four children and their families. Please pray for them that this will not just be a wonderful memory of the occasion but the start of a whole new chapter in their spiritual lives.

The timetable for next Saturday and Sunday needs noting.

The First Communion Masses will be on Saturday at 10.30am and 3.00pm and on Sunday at 3.00pm.

Therefore there will be no noon Mass next Saturday, nor will there be Confessions between 4.00pm and 5.00pm.

EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS: Preparations are in full swing and once again I remind you that Redemptorist Publications have produced a magnificently illustrated booklet, Adoremus Extra. They are available at the back of the church. It seems to me something of a bargain at £4.75, containing a wealth of material from some celebrated authors! It would be wonderful if every family had a copy so that we can all deepen our understanding of and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Adoremus Extra will also provide us with a wonderful souvenir of the event. We will order more copies if the first batch sells well.

There will soon be a display in the porch, identifying our parish representatives, who will attend the Congress and form the pastoral area reps for the Synod 2020.

PENTECOST: Next Sunday is the Feast of Pentecost and brings to an end the season of Easter. The nine days from the Ascension to Pentecost provide us with the tradition of the Novena (the nine days the apostles and Mary spent in prayer awaiting the coming of the Holy Spirit). This year we will pray the special Adoremus Prayer during this time. Copies of the Bookmark/Prayer Card are still available in the porch. If you can't get a copy from the porch the prayer is:

Come Holy Spirit,

Fill our hearts with wisdom,

Love and courage.

Make us more like Christ

in our words and actions.

Bless the work of your Church.

Renew us all in the desire

to make Christ

known and loved

in the world today.

Bless the work of our parish.

Guide all that we do

so that our church is a place

of mercy and service

for all who are seeking you.

Deepen our love

for the Presence of Christ in the Eucharist

and guide us in prayer and action

as we journey towards Synod 2020

to become the Church

you are calling us to be.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

NOVENA (OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL SUCCOUR): On the subject of Novenas, may I highlight the fact that this June we are doing an exchange with Clapham. I have been asked to preach the Novena in my hometown and Fr Charles Corrigan and the students will be coming to Bishop Eton to prepare for the feast on June 27. The Novena will begin on June 19th.

ARCHBISHOP MALCOLM: Archbishop Malcolm was immensely grateful for his welcome in both our parishes and schools. He wrote and asked me to thank “all involved in the various facets of parish life” and his best wishes “to the staff and all involved in the running of the schools.”

Please pray for the repose of the soul of Mr Richard Nunes, (the father of Matthew, the parish priest in Halewood) who died last Monday.

Today is World Communications Day, promoting the valuable work done on behalf of the Church by the communications office of the Bishops’ Conference. There will be a retiring collection after all Masses and prayer cards are available in the porch.
