FROM FR TIM
ADOREMUS: The Eucharistic Congress is less than two weeks away and I want to suggest that we do everything we can to help make it a success.
Next Sunday (2 September) we will have short commissioning service of our delegates at the 6.00pm Mass. If you have registered for the Congress personally, may I suggest that you come to this Mass and join the others in the commissioning ceremony?
The more representatives we have the better. For the rest, I remind you that Bishop Eton is hosting a couple of special fringe events.
Friday 7 September: Family Holy Hour at 6.00pm: It will be wonderful if we can have a tremendous turnout from both parishes. The format will be very simple and the children very much involved. Hopefully, if the weather permits, we will be able to include a Procession of the Blessed Sacrament around the grounds.
Saturday 8 September: ‘The Eucharist and the Redemptorist Charism’ Noon: Bishop Ralph Heskett, C.Ss.R. will lead the concelebrated Mass in the church and this will be followed by some refreshments and a talk by Fr Andrew Burns, C.Ss.R. in the Fisher-More Hall.
Foreign Mission Appeal: We welcome Fr John Garry from St Patrick’s Missionary Society, who will be making the annual mission appeal in both parishes this weekend.
Madeleine McCann: Mysteriously the photos of Madeleine at the entrance to the Lady Chapel—reminding us to continue to pray for her and her family—disappeared a couple of weeks ago. Understandably this has caused deep distress to the family and to me. If anyone knows how this happened I would like to know. Thank you...Fr Tim.
Comings and Goings: At present Fr Andrew is in Ireland for the great family event and the visit of Pope Francis. Both he and Fr Charles return this Sunday evening. I had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and have returned refreshed.
Tablet Articles A few of you may have noticed that I had a letter published in ‘The Tablet’ last weekend, and the previous week I also had a blog on ‘The Tablet’ website. I will make this available by including it in the September edition of ‘BE Alive’. These are difficult and painful times for the Church, the Pope has reminded us of what St Paul says: “If one part of the body is hurting, the whole body is hurting.” We will need to think and pray about this in the days ahead. Providentially ‘Adoremus’ may be offering us a good opportunity to begin that process.
The Funeral of Veronica Johnson RIP will take place on Friday 31 August at 12.00 noon.
Friends of the Holy Land Mass for peace and justice for our fellow Christians in the Holy Land will take place on Saturday 1 September at 12.00 midday.

Lay Associates: There will be a meeting for all Lay Associates on Saturday 1 September at 10.00am in the Fisher-More Hall.

Pope Francis: Reflections on The Joy of Love (Amoris Laetitia)
Each week we will be providing an excerpt on the Pope's letter for you to read and reflect on. The reflections have been made available by the Archdiocese’s Adult Faith Formation department.
"In the family, 'three words need to be used. I want to repeat this! Three words: ‘Please’, ‘Thank you’, ‘Sorry’. Three essential words!'”
(Amoris Laetitia 100)
Simple words but not so simple to put into practice. This week raise awareness of the importance of these words in your family relationships and compliment family members when they do use the words.

Perfumed Rosary Beads
St John Vianney’s Parish Sister, Sister Mary, who is now housebound, makes ‘real’ Rosary beads from real rose petals thus producing perfumed beads. She buys the accessories from overseas and then takes a couple of months preparing the crushed rose petals, until ready for beading. Sister then hand assembles the beads, the chains and crucifix complete with their presentation box, they are so blessed! Sister produces these to help raise much needed funds for those in Bangladesh who have had their villages and churches destroyed by floods. A set costs £10 and are available by ringing the Parish Office of St John Vianney, Halewood.

Kerala Floods - An SVP Appeal
Terrible floods have been taking place in Kerala in southern India. Hundreds of people have been killed and many more are missing; countless homes have been washed away and the monsoon season is set to continue until early September.
Kerala is the most Christian state in India – it has more churches than any other region.
The leading Catholic volunteering charity, the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP), is very active there and they are doing great work helping the victims of the flood in local communities.
However, they desperately need funds.
Please contribute to the SVP’s Kerala appeal.
To donate visit www.svp.org.uk, telephone 020 7703 3030 or send
cheques made out to SVP (write ‘Kerala appeal’ on the back) to SVP,
Romero House, 55 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7JB.
Please remember our sisters and brothers in Kerala in your prayers.
Thank you for your help and support.
